Jenna Ortega is at her brilliant best playing Wednesday Addams in Wednesday. Addams is an outcast sent to Nevermore Academy in Jericho after failing to fit in at her previous schools. She’s tasked with learning to control her abilities, stopping a killing spree in the town, and solving a 25-year-old murder mystery.

Furthermore, Addams, a sheltered character, has to navigate her feelings for a persistent and charming love interest who holds dark secrets behind a pretty face. It’s a lot on one girl’s shoulders, but she pulls through.

Ortega’s performance in the series has sparked questions about her sexuality.

Jenna’s statements during an interview suggest she is a member of the LGBTQ+ community

Jenna Ortega’s sexuality is unclear. However, her statements in a recent interview have convinced some fans that she’s a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

During an interview with TV Insider, Jenna referred to her co-star Gwendoline Christie as her ‘wife.’ Jenna said: “My woman. I love you. Sorry, that might be disrespectful, but that is my nickname for her. ‘Cause she’s my wife. Sorry, I look at you, I get so, I get – my heart.”

Gwendoline, who also starred in Game of Thrones, could barely contain her emotion. The pair clearly share a tight bond, but it’s unlikely that they are dating. Gwendoline Christie has dated fashion designer Giles Deacon since 2012.

Jenna Ortega might not be gay, but some Wednesday fans are convinced that Wednesday Addams is. They opine that Wednesday and her roommate Enid Sinclair harbor romantic feelings toward each other. They’ve interpreted the long hugs and lingering stares as evidence of gay feelings. The ship name for the pair is ‘Wenclair.’

Netflix allegedly doesn’t appreciate fan suspicions about the roommates. It has faced accusations of removing comments that suggest Addams is a lesbian. Interestingly, Netflix used a party hosted by drag queens dressed in Wednesday Addams attire to promote the series.

Unsurprisingly, Netflix has faced allegations of queerbaiting – fans have criticized the streaming service for using the LGBTQ+ community to promote the series despite refusing to tolerate suggestions of queer relationships on the show.

Drag queen Crystal Methyd referred to Wednesday as a queer icon. She said (via Out.com):

“As part of the Addams, she lives apart from mainstream culture. Instead of being shamed by the differences between her family’s way of life and that of society at large, she embraces what makes her different. She stands up for marginalized groups and faces bullies with an unflinching calm that any queer would be proud to emulate.”

Jenna Ortega has been linked to several men in the past

Jenna Ortega hasn’t been in a confirmed relationship during her career. However, she has faced several dating rumors.

Ortega was linked with actor Asha Angel when they attended Just Jared’s Annual Halloween Party dressed as Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande. They also attended a fashion show and the movie premiere of Venom and posted their happy moments on social media.

Angel seemingly confirmed the pair were dating during an Instagram live session. However, Ortega denied the couple ever dated.

Ortega was also linked to Jacob Sartorius after the pair were spotted hanging out in New York. It emerged that the pair were in the Big Apple shooting the music video for Jacob’s single Chapstick. Despite the couple kissing in the music video, they didn’t date in real life.

Jenna was also romantically linked to her Stuck in the Middle co-star Isaak Presley. The pair reportedly got close during filming, but their relationship remained platonic.
