Marcus Mariota’s quarterback career hasn’t panned out as he hoped. Nevertheless, the Philadelphia Eagles star has found success elsewhere, building a beautiful family and starting a charitable foundation alongside his wife, Kiyomi Cook. The couple met in 2014 at the University of Oregon, where Mariota played football, and Kiyomi played soccer. They got engaged in June 2020 and were married in July 2021.
Kiyomi Cook has Hawaiian roots; she was born and raised in Oregon
Kiyomi Cook was born in 1993 to Carol Tsuhako-Cook and Karl Cook in Gresham, Oregon. She grew up in Oregon alongside her brother and sister, who all played soccer. Kiyomi is of Hawaiian heritage.
Mariota and Kiyomi likely bonded over their Hawaiian roots when they met. Their first public sighting as a couple was at an NFL Draft party in 2015 in Honolulu. Images show that the secretive couple honors Hawaiian traditions.
“Hawaiian Royalty got married last night!!” Mariota’s former teammate Logan Ryan posted on Instagram in early July 2021. “Thank you Kiyomi and Marcus for including us. Nothing but eternal happiness for you two. MAHALO.”
The couple, who welcomed their daughter in Makaia in December 2022, have gained fame for their charitable work. Kiyomi serves as the social media director of Motiv8, Marcus’ charitable foundation. The pair also built a home for a local family in 2016. Mariota told The Tennessean:
“I just like being a part of the community and this is a great way to get involved. We have some free time in the offseason and this is a good way to spend it. I got to meet the family when we started working and it’s all about giving them a roof over their heads and I’m happy to be part of that.”
